With ‘Coachella’ as this year’s theme, the homecoming dance comes alive with party lights, bright colored decorations, and an energy that fills the gym from wall to wall. Homecoming 2025 was nothing short of a blast. From the DJ’s beats to photo booth pictures, the night perfectly blends the music festival energy with high-school tradition and spirit. Setting up this amazing event is no easy feat, “The Homecoming planning timeline was a crazy one,” explains Jane Berman, North Broward’s esteemed sophomore class president, “The biggest challenge we faced while planning homecoming was deciding on the theme… We started brainstorming themes last year, and we finalized our Hocochella theme in mid-July.”
Homecoming wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of the sophomore class representatives and the rest of Student Government. These students spend months working tirelessly so the student body can enjoy a night full of music, lights, and memories.
As Berman explains, “Every year, the sophomores get to choose the theme, and they plan the entire dance with the help of Ms. Amelchenko and Mr. Harreys.” The team starts thinking of possible ideas months in advance to the dance, meeting with decorators and the catering company to share vision boards, discuss budgets, and finalize every detail, “We all have very unique visions, so it can be hard to land on something we all love, but when we do, it’s always something special. Once we got the theme out of the way, it was pretty much smooth sailing from there.”
But of course, the challenges don’t just end there. The team puts a lot of effort into making the night of the dance unforgettable for everyone who attends, but there is no dance without its dancers. Now that they have their plans laid out, they have to advertise it, “Presley did an amazing job with her posters and posts on social media,” Jack Rodman reflects, “We had publicity on every single TV around campus, and we sold tickets at lunch, guaranteeing that almost every student had to walk by the ticket booth and see other students buying tickets.”
The team’s hard work quickly pays off as excitement for “Hocochella” spreads across campus. “We saw a surplus of tickets being bought this year…” Jane says, “…which really made us happy because we got to see people enjoy all of the work that we put into Homecoming.” By the time the night arrives, students are counting down the minutes until the doors open.
Overall, “Hocochella” was quite the success. While it’s easy to get caught up on sequins and photo-ops, it’s crucial to remember that Homecoming is more than a dance. It’s a celebration of community and creativity. The sophomores’ effort and vision transform the gym into a space where every student feels part of something memorable, proving once again that when the Eagles come together, the night always soars.
