North Broward’s variety of clubs have seen both success and struggle, many have come and gone, and many have revived and made an impact. One club in particular is the ping pong club, whose status as a club was revoked before it had a chance to shine.
After speaking with the president of the ping pong club, Giuseppe Aguila, our team learned about his passion and process in bringing the club back in action. In the 2024 – 2025 school year, Giuseppe showed interest in joining the ping pong club, but after learning about the club’s status, he acted; what started as a disappointment led to motivation. Giuseppe shared, “I learned that the club had shut down before it even started. Because of this, I asked to take the former president’s place and take the next step into implementing the club into the North Broward community.”
Giuseppe wants to ensure inclusion, and to have a club where people can gather and build a sense of community through the sport of ping pong. In his words, he wants to create an atmosphere that is “energetic, fun, and engaging for all who join” and encourages a safe space for all to congregate and have fun. His main goal is to introduce his peers to a sport that he states “isn’t expressed usually.” Moving forward, Giuseppe sees endless potential in the club’s success, and he visualizes a valuable future in promoting community through the club by hosting tournaments that include prizes and activities that all members can be part of.
Whether you are a seasoned player or have never picked up a paddle, the ping pong club offers more than just the sport of ping pong. It encourages those to pursue a small hobby, build connections, and promotes fun that brings community together one rally at a time.
