Senior Layni Tobias is chasing her athletic and academic dreams by committing to Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina to play Division I volleyball. After four years of playing, she has many accomplishments to be proud of, including leading the North Broward team to the State Championships. She says, “… every season has helped me grow more as a player and a teammate.”
Now that the season is over, Layni has to start thinking about the future. She has decided to continue her path in volleyball all the way in North Carolina. It will give her many new opportunities and experiences, but there will be a crucial part of her time at North Broward that she will miss, her team. The season felt different to Layni than the others. She notices how this group of girls is more focused and shares the same mindset and goal. She says “It was an unforgettable season with an incredible group of girls!” Layni has been playing volleyball for four years now, and when asked to give advice to fellow high school athletes she tells us, “Always give your best effort. It doesn’t matter how late you start — as long as you’re dedicated to improving every day, you can become the player you dream of being.”
Some career highlights from Layni, serving as a 6’2” middle blocker/hitter include 225 career kills, 109 total blocks, and 170 sets played. However, when asked about her proudest moment on the court she said, “My proudest moments are when I get big blocks that shift the momentum back to our side. There’s no better feeling than bringing the energy back to my team.” This season, the Varsity team was unstoppable, with Layni’s favorite part being, “Winning districts, regionals, and the state championship. It felt amazing to see all our hard work finally pay off!” After a record breaking season, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Layni in all her future endeavors.
