If you stop by the Fine Arts Building at North Broward Preparatory School from October 8 to December 15, you will see The Growth Show at Gallery 10. The exhibition showcases artwork from students in Pre-K through 12th grade, as well as faculty members. There is a wide variety of art to see, including paintings, drawings, digital art, sculptures, and performance pieces. It is open to the NBPS community free of charge. Visitors, students, and faculty are encouraged to experience these amazing pieces.
The theme of the exhibit is “growth,” explores both artistic and personal evolution. A reference to Viktor Lowenfeld’s research on the developmental stages of children in art. Lowenfeld was an influential art educator and researcher best known for his book Creative and Mental Growth. He is often called the father of art education because his research transformed how teachers understand the connection between art and child development. Lowenfeld’s ideas perfectly match the exhibition’s message: growth through art. By referencing his work, this show isn’t just about skill improvement; it’s about emotional and intellectual growth, too. Each student’s artwork serves as evidence of how creativity evolves alongside personal growth.
“The projects above illustrate my journey in trying a multitude of different styles and media in art,” said Rafaela Fialho Queiroz Bastos. “While I feel resentment towards some of my old works, I still feel a sense of accomplishment in seeing how much I’ve improved my work.”
Engaging in art plays a vital role in youth development, enhancing self-expression, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence. Through creative exploration, students learn to communicate their thoughts and feelings in personal ways while developing problem-solving and analytical skills. Art also serves as a tool for identity formation and allowing people to discover who they are and what they value. They can experience growth through trial and error. Showing students that mistakes can lead to innovation. Beyond personal development. Art creates a community to connect students through collaboration.
By showcasing the artistic journeys of students and faculty, The Growth Show highlights the creativity and dedication within the North Broward Preparatory School community. The exhibition offers the opportunity to support and appreciate the artistic achievements of young creators, creating a sense of pride amongst the campus. Everyone is encouraged to attend the opening reception and visit the exhibition to experience firsthand the diverse expressions of imagination on display. Overall, The Growth Show serves as both a celebration of progress and a reminder of art’s ability to inspire and unite.
