Between their hard work and unity, North Broward’s girls basketball team is off to a great start this season. They’ve had many long, intense games so far and have been able to persevere through it all. With each win and loss, the team is able to grow and continue to share their love for basketball.
These big wins are about more than just the celebration, and more about supporting each other. Sadye Eichman tells us the team talks about what went well and continues this excitement of the win after the game. She says, “We try to put each other up since it is a team win.” It’s not just one player that pulls it all off. The whole team puts in the hard work that pays off with these wins and accomplishments, so everyone deserves to celebrate it.
However, these wins don’t come easily. There are many years of hard work and dedication that have led them to where they are now, but it all started with a little bit of inspiration. Makena Longo had been surrounded by basketball early on since both of her older brothers had played. “It kind of just stuck with me,” she says, talking about how it’s always been a part of her life. Another player, Sam Spodak, started playing basketball in fifth grade just for fun, but started to love the game. She shares how her want to play basketball grew, and says, “…then I played more competitively in 6th.” Whether they’ve grown up with basketball their whole life, or just decided to try it out on a random day, this team is full of dedicated players.
This team has a very special dynamic on and off the court. When asked to describe their team in one word, they used the words “family” and “unified,” representing how connected this team continues to be. Growing their bond helps them become one on the court. When discussing her favorite part of the game, Longo says, “My favorite part is defense. When our whole team is communicating and rotating properly it drives our energy.”
North Broward’s girls basketball team has the energy and dedication that makes them special. That feeling of family and unity helps bring them together to accomplish great things. We cannot wait to see the exciting things this will accomplish this season, and how they will continue to grow as a team.
