Although Jayda Palumbo always pictures a college career involving soccer, her path takes a turn when her passion and talent for volleyball become clear. Between her raw dedication to the sport and her eye-opening statistics becoming impossible to dismiss, Jayda decides to pursue her passion and play Division I Volleyball at Villanova University, a reflection of her past five years of commitment playing volleyball.
Jayda is a part of the varsity volleyball program at NBP since freshman year, constantly displaying her love for the sport. Her consistent effort during club and varsity practices continuously helps her skills develop. She is currently ranked third in the district and 144th in Florida, playing the outside/rightside position.
When asked whether she pictures herself pursuing volleyball in college, she states, “No, I always want to play soccer,” but the discovery of her natural talent for volleyball, sooner or later, changes her athletic focus. Following her visit to the campus and playing with the Villanova team, Palumbo realizes that it is the school for her. She speaks about how she loves the balance between athletics and academics, as academics remain a high priority in her decision. If junior and senior year go as planned for her, she will likely major in business, following one of her passions.
Jayda makes it clear that her decision is not solely based on the volleyball team itself, but also the overall environment on campus and the rigor of the school. On the other hand, playing with the team sets things into stone: she loves the balance between hard work and enjoyment.
Jayda’s verbal commitment is announced on The Coconut Creek Talk last month. It lists some of her incredible achievements: “Palumbo has played on the varsity team at NBP for two years and has recorded 449 kills in only 140 sets. She records her 100th career ace last season and has 276 digs and 26 assists.” These accomplishments, accumulated over the past two years here at North Broward Prep, illustrate her perseverance and dedication toward volleyball. Although her major reasons for committing to Villanova make sense, she admits that the school colors are the cherry on top.
