For Mrs. Leach, teaching is about more than lessons. It’s about consistency, encouragement, and helping students realize their potential. As an AP World History teacher, she shares her journey to becoming an educator, as well as the values that guide her teaching.
Mrs. Leach has had her heart set on teaching from an early age. When asked how she chose history, Leach says, “Initially, I began my studies to become a Health Teacher, but during college, I take a Human Geography course that completely changed my perspective.” She goes on to say, “It inspires me to pursue Social Studies as well because I love how the content connects to everyday life and offers a broader understanding of the world.”
The path to her teaching career begins with a strong academic foundation. Mrs. Leach tells us that she completed and earns her undergraduate degree in Health and Social Studies Education from Brigham Young University (BYU). While attending school there, Mrs. Leach also has the opportunity to play basketball at the collegiate level. She adds, “Later, I completed my MBA at Western Governors University.”
With 13 years of teaching experience, including 2 years at North Broward Prep, Mrs. Leach brings energy, dedication, and excitement into her classroom. Her students benefit greatly from her expertise and passion in helping them grow both academically and personally.
When asked for her greatest piece of advice for those taking an AP course she shares, “My best advice is simple: be consistent. Consistently complete your homework. Consistently participate in class. Consistently practice applying the skills you learn (not just the night before a summative!).” She continues, “Consistency is the key to success and will prepare you well for the AP exam in May, and for the rest of your life.”
Beyond academics, Mrs. Leach hopes her students take lessons away from her class far beyond the classroom: “I hope my students leave my class with the skills to be thoughtful, engaged citizens and, most importantly, the confidence to know they matter.” She emphasizes, “ I want them to always remember that they have someone in their corner, cheering them on—me!” With her dedication, passion, and encouragement, Mrs. Leach leaves a lasting impact on every student fortunate enough to be in her classroom.
