This year, the North Broward Prep Swim team has been hard at work striving to reach new personal records and grow as a team. Earlier this week, on Wednesday, October 22nd, the North Broward Eagles Swim team competed in a district swim meet showcasing the results of their dedication, perseverance, and growth throughout this season. At each meet, the Eagles push themselves to their full potential, allowing them to achieve their best and represent North Broward.
This week, The Eagle Gazette had the opportunity to interview some members of the swim team to gain insight into their experiences this season. While speaking with student athlete Derek Barbag, we ask why he enjoys being a part of the team. He says, “My favorite part about being on the swim team this season is strengthening and creating new friendships on the team, while also being able to compete alongside them.” The swim team not only challenges athletes in the pool, but also allows them to build lasting connections with their teammates. By the end of the district meet, Derek highlights, “Competing at districts felt amazing because all the work I’ve been putting in really pays off. I was capable of doing so much more than in the past years and swim two personal records.” Being a part of the swim team allows athletes to grow both mentally and physically, improving their performance in the pool.
Beyond their individual experiences, the Eagles swim team encourages and supports one another, and every swimmer motivates the others to do their best. Senior Radhika Nanavati mentions the support she gives her teammates at this meet. She says, “It felt very exciting competing at districts, as I got to spend a lot of time cheering and helping my swim teammates in my last year on this team.” Members of the swim team highlight the impact that their friends’ and coaches’ support and encouragement have on their performance and experience on the team. While speaking with Jordin Bekker, she reflects on how proud she is of her teammates. She shares, “I am very proud of the team’s progress this season because in every meet we have all dropped times. I am proud of all the new members who have never swum before or have come back after a long break from competing. I’m proud that they were able to step out of their comfort zone and compete.” These experiences show how the Eagles’ supportive team not only shapes their athletes into better swimmers but also better people, allowing them to create lasting memories and bonds with their teammates.
Overall, the NBP varsity swim team has grown immensely as a group, shaping these athletes into better swimmers and individuals. The support the team has for one another will continue to impact each athlete’s experience on the team, allowing them to create lifelong friendships and memories they will cherish forever.
